With its almost 25 meters of height, the Arch of Constantine, is still the best preserved arch of triumph in Rome. The monument has three archways, one bigger central archway and two smaller lateral ones. The lower part of the monument is built of marble blocks, the top (called attic) is brickwork covered in marble. On both sides of the Arch is possible to find the following inscription which reads thus:
To the Emperor Caesar Flavius Constantinus, the greatest, pious, and blessed Augustus: because he, inspired by the divine, and by the greatness of his mind, has delivered the state from the tyrant and all of his followers at the same time, with his army and just force of arms, the Senate and People of Rome have dedicated this arch, decorated with triumphs.
